Working with Children with
Autism Spectrum Disorders
The Corvallis PDD/Autism Parent Support
Group is looking for committed people willing to be a social mentor
and friend to a child with autism (the kids call them "Play Buddies").
Depending on the age, interests, and abilities of the child, a student
would spend time weekly (for a minimum of a term) with the child participating
in a variety of activities which may include: bike riding, bowling,
going to the park, swimming, games, going for ice cream, hiking, or
other excursions. It is through these activities that our children
will learn manners, taking turns, sharing, and social give and take.
Our Support Group represents many children
who have various interests and degrees of skills. we would like
to provide our children with some fun and one-on-one nurturing socialization.
Basic autism information and training
