Specialties: Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry, Biomedical Psychiatry for Children & Adults
1. What are the primary medical specialties in which you were originally trained (e.g., pediatrics, family medicine)?
Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry
2. Approximately how many individuals with autism have you treated, and what is the age range?
400-500 since 2003, from 18 months to adulthood. I do not do a high volume practice. I see only up to four patients per day four days a week. My patients get careful care. My practice is about 80% Autism, 20% difficult to treat problems of adulthood.
3. Do you usually have a waiting list?
Yes. But we get cancellations so often patients can get in sooner.
4. On the average, how long do you spend face-to-face with a new patient for an initial consultation?
1 ½ hours minimum. 2 hours is usual.
5. After the first consultation, what is the average length of an appointment?
1 hour unless I have just had an appointment with them and am just trouble- shooting. I try to have time free to talk with patients when they need it.
6. Are your patients advised to use special diets such as GF/CF, SCD, low-oxalate, etc.?
Absolutely. Please see the Fundamentals sections of my website NancyMullanMD.com
7. Can you collaborate with other specialists we will be dealing with (e.g., gastroenterologists)?
Yes, definitely.
8. Are you willing to collaborate on treatment and testing with a child’s pediatrician if he/she is receptive?
Being a psychiatrist, I always want the patient to have a pediatrician, preferably an Integrative Pediatrician.
9. Do you or anyone in your office speak languages other than English?
No, unfortunately.
10. Are you willing to offer phone consultations for distant patients?
Yes
11. Do you provide any form of after-hours support?
Yes
12. Do you sell proprietary nutritional supplements or have a sales agreement with supplement suppliers? Do you sell supplements at list price or less?
I do not have a line of proprietary supplements. Dispensing supplements is not an aspect of practice that I emphasize.
13. Do you take insurance? If not, do you provide organized, coded insurance forms?
We do not accept insurance as payment. We give the patient a SuperBill with which they can file for reimbursement.
14. Do you bill for laboratory tests done by commercial laboratories? How do you break down the fees?
The patient pays the lab for the test. We try to get them the lowest fee offered by the lab.
15. Is there a reason you might not bill for an office visit?
I will speak to any patient for 10 - 15 minutes to clarify an issue without charging. Occasionally I will not charge for an office visit. I will speak briefly to any patient without charge.
